Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has continued his ascent as one of the NBA’s elite young stars this season.
Edwards is averaging 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists as the Timberwolves (15–4) sit atop the Western Conference standings through 19 games of the NBA season. The 22-year-old’s leap continues after he registered his first All-Star nod last season and followed it up with a spot on the U.S. national team in the FIBA Basketball World Cup this summer.
However, in a recent interview with Boardroom, Edwards revealed that he doesn’t like recognizing himself as a ‘23 All-Star because he was one of three replacements—along with Raptors’ Pascal Siakam and Kings’ De’Aaron Fox—on the NBA All-Star roster following injuries to Warriors’ Steph Curry, Pelicans’ Zion Williamson and Suns’ Kevin Durant.
“That All-Star Game [selection] didn’t count. Somebody got hurt and I was the fallback guy… I don’t even like when people call me an All-Star,” Edwards said. “I really didn’t make it.”

Although Edwards didn’t earn the recognition the way he desired it last season, he looks primed to be named an All-Star this year regardless of any injuries down the roster. The 2024 NBA All-Star game will take place on Feb. 18 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
