Anthony Davis participated in non-contact practice drills on Thursday

Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis may not be close to returning to game action, but he is getting closer, seemingly by the day.

Earlier this week, it was revealed he would soon start running, and head coach Darvin Ham said on Wednesday that Davis had been getting in lengthy individual workouts while remaining virtually pain-free.

Ham gave an even more positive update on Thursday. The Lakers had an off day that allowed them to get some practice time, which is hard to come by during the dog days of the NBA season.

According to the coach, Davis participated in practice in a non-contact capacity.

Davis has missed 17 games because of the stress injury in his right foot. The hope is that he can return around early February, which would give him the opportunity to play some games before the All-Star break while getting back into game shape and rhythm.
