Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed that Kevin Rudd will remain as Australia’s ambassador to the United States after Rudd’s past social media posts about President-elect Donald Trump resurfaced after the US Presidential election.
After Trump officially won the race for the White House, punters noticed that the former Australian Prime Minister was deleting scathing posts regarding his thoughts on the Republican Presidential candidate.
In the past posts, Rudd completely roasted Trump, describing him as “the most destructive president in history”, a “village idiot” and a “traitor to the West”.
As a result, some people demanded that Rudd get the boot for his past remarks. Even Senior Trump advisor Dan Scavino seemingly sent a warning to the former Prime Minister, replying to Rudd’s congratulatory post to Trump with an hourglass gif.

Now, Albanese has stood his ground and confirmed that Rudd will continue to serve as Australia’s ambassador to the US.
“Ambassador Rudd is doing a good job and that’s been recognised across the political spectrum in Australia by people from Tony Abbott to Malcolm Turnbull to Peter Dutton and obviously the Australian Government,” Albanese told ABC’s Insiders on Sunday.
Albanese echoed the same sentiment to Sky News Australia, telling the publication that Rudd has seen praise across the board for his role as Australia’s ambassador to the US, especially his role in the AUKUS pact.
“He continues to do the job. He has developed relationships across the political spectrum in the United States, as I expect any ambassador to do,” the PM told the publication.
Alongside confirming Rudd’s position, the Prime Minister also took Sky News that he and Trump have had a very “constructive beginning” and that the ambassador was not mentioned during his 10-minute congratulatory phone call with the President-elect.
