Ant McPartlin 'wasn't sure' he'd turn up ahead of Saturday Night Takeaway filming

Ant McPartlin explained why he almost didn't show up for rehearsals for Saturday Night Takeaway in a one-off documentary about the hit series.

Declan Donnelly and his co-host took ITV viewers on a behind-the-scenes look at how Saturday Night Takeaway is filmed on Sunday.

The documentary gave fans an insight into how the Geordie duo prepare for stunts before focussing on how the presenters bring the action-packed show together each week.

In one clip, Ant and Dec prepare to practise one of their stunts, which this series has included seeing the presenting duo submerged in ice baths and walking on a plank off the top of a skyscraper.

When the night arrived, Ant and Dec were both raring to go but the former admitted he wasn't sure it was going to be ready.

"I wasn't sure if I was going to have the energy for today," the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! host told the camera. "But then you seen the cameras and you're like, 'Yeah let's do this!'"

Elsewhere in the documentary, fans watched as a member of the crew told the studio audience to laugh at Ant and Dec's jokes.

"If they say something funny, for the love of god, laugh," the crew member remarked.
