Ant and Dec warn of 'brutal' viewing in new I'm A Celebrity spin off

A special spin-off series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is set to air later this year. I'm A Celeb hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly have now shared new details about it.

It was filmed in South Africa last year and features past contestants from the series. There is no public involvement as it has already been shot.

Ant and Dec revealed it was 'completely different' to what fans have seen in the past and to the format of the main show, which will still air later this year. The presenting duo also hinted it was 'brutal' viewing as contestants will go against each other in trials to keep their place on the series, reports the Mirror.

Teasing new details about the show after a mix of reports, Dec revealed on ITV Lorraine on Friday, January 6: "It's kind of an all-stars. Taking some of your favourite campmates from the last 20 years and taking them for a brand new challenge in South Africa.

"So it's a completely different landscape and they're doing it again. They're competing to become the first ever I'm A Celebrity 'Legend of the Savanna'. It's very special."

Ant also explained the changes to the show, including how the winner is chosen with there not being a public vote this time. He said: "And it's slightly different to the show we do in Australia because they go head to head in trials and whoever loses leaves. It's quite brutal, so that's how we decided the winner."

Dec told Lorraine about what fans can expect. He said: "We've done it, we've shot it and it's really, really good."

Comparing the experience to Australia, Ant joked: "Do you know what, though, there was loads of baboons when we filmed the series. There were baboons everywhere.

"Like we'd be in the middle of doing a trial and then you would just hear the noise, literally just behind the cameraman, and a whole family of baboons… is that what you call them? A group of baboons? A school of baboons?

"I don't know. A babble of baboons would just sit watching the trial."

Dec agreed, saying: "They came along in the middle of the trial, they just came along and just sat there. That was the audience, yeah!

"Hopefully there will be a few more watching when it goes on telly." Ant then joked: "We didn't get any laughs from the baboons!"

I'm A Celebrity's spin-off show airs later this year on ITV1 and ITVX. Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am
