Ant and Dec thought Coronation invite was a revenge-driven 'wind up' for their pranks

Suspicious Ant and Dec feared their invite to the Coronation was finally someone getting their own back for their various pranks over the years.

The troublesome duo have wound up a whole host of celebs over the years – all in front of the cameras.

They were worried it was them on the receiving end this time when they opened envelope to discover they were heading for Westminster Abbey to witness King Charles III being crowned.

But after the penny dropped, they could finally select their suits and sit among royalty this weekend.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, Ant said: "It is a privilege – an honour and a privilege – to be here today."

Dec said getting an invite was a strange feeling and he added: "It's quite surreal when the invite comes through and it's quite an ornate invite and it comes through the door and you think, 'hang on a minute, is it finally our time to get wound up?'

"Is someone having us on here because this is a really good wind up' and no, apparently it was true and here we are!"

As the TV duo awaited the historic ceremony, they uploaded a suited and booted photo to Instagram and captioned it: "It’s time to BeRegal".

They won't be the only showbiz names in attendance.

Long time friends of the royal, Victoria and David Beckham are among the big names rumoured to be attending the Coronation.

In February, she picked up her latest honour from the King, a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, for services to fashion and sustainability.

McCartney also designed Meghan Markle's dress for her wedding reception.

Rowan Atkinson will be seen on the special day, as will Joanna Lumley and Bear Grylls.

Rowan was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.

It has been well documented that Meghan Markle will be staying in the US while Prince Harry attends the occasion on his own.

US President Joe Biden will not be attending the special day, but his wife and First Lady Jill Biden will be there in his place.

It has also been reported that Sarah Ferguson, despite being previously married to Prince Andrew, has not received an invitation to the Coronation. However the Duchess of York plans to celebrate the historic event "in private" with Charles and Camilla.
