Ant and Dec 'taking break' from Saturday Night Takeaway after 20 years

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have announced they will take a break from Saturday Night Takeaway after the 2024 series, ITV said.

Having first aired in June 2002, the show is still seen as a huge success with the presenters at the helm of it for more than two decades. In a statement they said after such a long time, now seemed a good time to "catch their breath".

Ant said: "We love making Saturday Night Takeaway, but reaching the milestone of 20 series seemed like the perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath."

Dec said: "We still have a momentous 20th series to look forward to first so we will do our best to go out (for now) with a bang in 2024."

It is not clear how long the break will be for or whether it is a permanent move.

The news comes after Ant and Dec founded the production company, Mitre Television Limited, and even gave fans a sneak peek of their office on Instagram last year. Mitre is named after the pub from the TV show Byker Grove, which is where the presenters first met as young actors in 1990.
