Ant and Dec speak out on 'interesting' Matt Hancock as they hail 2022 series 'best ever'

Ant and Dec have declared I'm A Celebrity 2022 "the best series for years" and admitted the inclusion of Matt Hancock was "interesting".

The TV hosts are now flying back to London after another brilliant year as hilarious hosts of the ITV show.

Asked about the series, Ant McPartlin said: "Yeah it was the best for years. Loved it. Absolutely loved it.

"A good winner in Jill, she is great isn't she? I think her or Owen, he would have really loved the win, but we were all really happy she won and would have been if it was vice versa."

And Declan Donnelly added: "They were a really great bunch. There was lots of laughs, I love George and Seann and Babatunde and I just thought there was a really lovely bunch this year."

Quizzed about Matt Hancock, Dec said: "Yeah, well that was an interesting one, wasn't it? Yeah, he did very well in there. Obviously coming third."

Asked if he was nervous about interviewing him, he added: "It was a bit of a different one, but no, not very nervous because, you know, it was all within the context of the show. So yeah, that was really interesting."

Ant would not be drawn on his opinions about MP Hancock, who was paid a reported £400,000.

Asked what he thought of Hancock, he grinned and said: "I just think the whole series has been good, you know. It's been great," before heading for the departure gates.

Fans have been almost universal in their praise for Ant and Dec as hosts this year, with the pair clearly loving being back in Australia.

Their gags helped the show to huge ratings including a peak of 11.5million in the final which was the biggest for the show since 2018.
