Ant and Dec's Britain's Got Talent tears over emotional contestant twist

Ant and Dec have admitted to being tearful during a Britain's Got Talent audition after the hosts and producers sprung an twist on an unsuspecting audience member.

The Geordie presenters were just as gutted as fans of the ITV show last year when it was axed completely by bosses, due to the country still being in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic and subject to lockdown restrictions. The strict rules meant that auditions had to be scrapped and with the show facing an uphill battle to catch up, the decision was made to rest it for a year.

The last time a Britain's Got Talent winner was crowned was in the autumn of 2020, when singing comedian Jon Courtenay, Ant and Dec 's Golden Buzzer act, triumphed in the final after delivering an emotional last performance, addressing how everyone had rallied during a tough time of things. And, sticking with Britain's Got Talent tradition, it doesn't sound like there's any shortage of heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments in the new series.

The new series of BGT will launch on ITV this weekend, with episodes on both Easter Saturday and Sunday, with a teaser showing Ant and Dec dragging a contestant off stage during one audition.

Teasing what's to come and the acts that stuck out for him and Dec, Ant said: "There were a few. We surprised somebody in the audience He was surprised by his daughters and was asked to come on stage and perform that day. He thought he had just come to watch the show!

"He went away for an hour or two, rehearsed, and then at the end of that session came back and performed the song. That was very emotional."

Dec added: "That was a tear-jerker! That's what's amazing about BGT is that you never quite know the next act if it's going to have you in tears, in hysterics, floods of rage because it's not as good as you'd hoped. You just never know what emotions you're going to feel for the next act. That's what's so magic about it."
