Ant and Dec's April Fool prank that sent fans into total meltdown

When it comes to April Fools, there is one prank that will be remembered for a long time and the people responsible are none other than Ant and Dec.

While some people might remember the April Fool's Day stunt from Geordie Shore in 2015 about Cheryl joining the cast when she was still Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, it's Ant and Dec's from last year, when we were all itching to get out of another Covid lockdown to enjoy drinks outdoors, that takes the prize for the one that caused the biggest stir.

Ant and Dec sent social media into meltdown when they announced that they were going to rebrand and now wanted to be officially known as Dec and Ant.

Their hilarious post on Twitter, which attracted more than 12,000 likes, was accompanied by mock statements from both. And the message on Instagram got huge 93,000 likes.

Ant and Dec wrote: "Some big news for you guys... after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed, and so without further ado, we can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant. It’s only fair on the little guy."

While plenty of their followers called the announcement out as an April Fool straight away, others fell for it. With one tweeting: "April fools really ain’t for someone as gullible as me. Been out here all morning thinking Ant and Dec have really changed their name to Dec and Ant for business reasons. someone take me out back."

Equally gullible, another fan responded: "My heart dropped then!!!! I thought that was a goodbye tweet!! Not something my half asleep mind wants to read when it’s only just awakened! Bloody April Fools! Hell, Dec and Ant!"

And a third reacted: "Already been April fooled by Ant and Dec. Happy April."
