Ant and Dec reveal Roy Keane 'close' to heading into I'm A Celebrity camp

Ant and Dec have revealed they were "close" to getting Roy Keane to go in the jungle - and hope to sign him up for the 2023 series.

The Geordie duo were speaking about possible future contestants when they discussed Olivia Attwood's exit and whether she could even return.

Ant said it was a "good idea" to see if the former Love Island star could come back next year and he would put in a word with show bosses.

Moving onto other names suggested by fans, Ant said: "Roy Keane next year? Do you know what Roy Keane would be very good. And I think we've asked him on a few occasions and he's been close. He's been close to saying yes, so maybe next year could be the year. Come on Roy Keane, do it for the lads."

Dec added: "I would love Roy Keane, he is top of our list."

Other suggestions they liked from fans included their ITV pal Stephen Mulhern, although they said big names like Gordon Ramsay and Chris Rock would never do it.

The presenters also told of their relief at someone other than Matt Hancock was getting to do a Bushtucker trial.

Dec said: "It's nice to see some new faces down at the trials. It was getting a little repetitive, wasn't it? And three good people, what a threesome that is."

Ant added: "It is very good. And if you want to see a fun trial Jill would be a good person to vote for. Jill's very light and I think she would bring a different energy to the trial area."

In 2014, former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane admitted he had held talks with ITV over appearing on the series.

At the time he told Shortlist magazine: "I met the jungle people, but I thought, 'Nah, not for me.' But the more you say no, the more determined they are to get you, so who knows? There’s more to life than football." He is currently a regular pundit on Sky Sports.
