Ant and Dec pull out of all work engagements due to 'sudden' illness

Ant and Dec have pulled out of all work engagements after both presenters fell sick with a 'sudden' illness, which has now been confirmed as Covid, meaning they won't attend Thursday's National Television Awards.

The duo, who are gearing up to host another series of I'm A Celebrity, having just filmed an All Star run in South Africa, have postponed all work commitments until they recover, a spokesperson has ITV confirmed. They had been due to front a special episode of Britain's Got Talent called The Ultimate Magician, but their BGT and Saturday Night Takeaway co-star Stephen Mulhern was forced to step in for them.

On their absence from The Ultimate Magician, a source on the programme said: "Ant and Dec are both unwell and have postponed all work commitments until they recover.

"Sadly, this means they were unable to film Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician. Whilst we wish them a speedy recovery, we are thrilled to confirm that BGT’s favourite magician, Stephen Mulhern has stepped in."

On Wednesday evening, Ant and Dec took to social media to reveal they had both tested positive for Covid and therefore wouldn't be at the NTAs.

The National Television Awards, which are being held in London on Thursday night, had been due to take place last month, but were hastily postponed in the aftermath of The Queen's death. The NTAs are always a happy stomping ground for Ant and Dec, with them winning the Best Presenter accolade for 20 years in a row, with them the red hot favourites to win for a 21st time this year. They will also be in with a great shot of a trophy as Saturday Night Takeaway takes on I'm A Celebrity for the Best Entertainment Prize.
