Ant and Dec gatecrash ITV This Morning and Alison Hammond's reaction leaves fans in stitches

Alison Hammond couldn't hide her shock as This Morning got gatecrashed by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

The presenter and her co-host Dermot O'Leary were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Friday (March 25) bringing viewers a whole host of segments to round of the week. Among those was a phone-in with Ian Wallace who appeared via video link from Edinburgh to help decode viewers' dreams.

He and the hosts heard from one woman, named Sonia, who dreams that her car's handbrake fails. They also heard from Anna who has regular dreams that she keeps going to her old house.

As they wrapped up the item with Ian, Alison said it was 'fascinating' and started to tell viewers about what expert they'll be joined by on Monday's show. But as she tried to get out her sentence, music started to blare out in the studio and suddenly Ant and Dec appeared through the door, past the kitchen area and over to the desk where Alison and Dermot were sitting.

The Geordie duo were dressed in sparkly tuxedos with dickie bow ties. Dec appeared with crashing a pair of symbols while Ant was equipped with a huge confetti cannon and a party blower.

And Alison couldn't hide her shock and clung onto Dermot for dear life before jumping out her seat as she and her co-host were covered in colourful confetti.

It's fair to say Alison was surprised (ITV)

Ant and Dec were flanked into the studio by two other people holding up signs informing viewers that the pair's show, Saturday Night Takeaway, would be back this weekend - specifically tomorrow night (March 26) as the name gives away - after it was taken off air last weekend for the rugby.

Their programme's theme tune continued to ring out for a bit longer as Dermot and Alison tried to fathom what was actually going on. "No, you're next door," Dermot tried exclaiming over the noise as Alison eventually sat down and said: "What you doing?" before bursting out laughing.

"We had a really weird dream that Saturday Night Takeaway was back on tomorrow night and our dreams coming true," Ant said to canned applause and cheers.

The hosts weren't expecting it (ITV)

"We're actually just passing. We're on our way to film something for tomorrow night's show but we just wanted to remind you, and everybody, because we had a week off last week because of the rugby, we wanted to remind you all that we're back tomorrow."

As Dermot held his head in his hands and Alison continued to laugh, Ant said: "We normally see you at the tea bar don't we when we walk past after you finish the show but we thought we'd interrupt the show."

Dec then cleared up: "We were literally just passing. We're going now..." to which Dermot then joked: "This is how you feel when Stephen Mulhern comes on the show."

The duo were teasing the return of Saturday Night Takeaway (ITV)

The presenters then teased what was coming up on Saturday Night Takeaway and had to apologise as Dermot poij nted out their was now confetti all in their drinks. Ant then tried to nick a piece of fruit from the bowl sat in front of the This Morning hosts before being left fuming.

As he went to bit into it he said: "It's not real. I know they weren't real when I was watching," before throwing the fake apple across the studio and disappearing off to allow a stressed Phil Vickery to make his way in to check on his pudding which was cooking in the oven.

Alison later admitted to Dermot: "That really frightened me," as he laughed at her. "I didn't expect that," she said as Dermot tried to throw to the break. "What just happened," she added. And viewers watching at home quickly saw the funny side and were in stitches at Alison's dramatic reaction.

"The way Alison grabbed Dermot #thismorning," @SpannaD tweeted alongside a quickly made GIF of the moment.
