Another team off list of possible suitors for Jimmy Garoppolo

The list of teams in need of Jimmy Garoppolo’s services is dwindling. The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to sign quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year contract per multiple reports. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported Trubisky is expected to be the starter for Pittsburgh.

With Russell Wilson traded to Denver, Carson Wentz traded to Washington and now Trubisky landing with the Steelers the teams looking to add a starting QB has shrunk significantly. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Steelers were in on Garoppolo trade talks prior to agreeing to a deal with Trubisky.

Indianapolis, New Orleans and Carolina all figure to still be in the mix for Garoppolo, although with Deshaun Watson’s trade market heating up the 49ers could see one of those teams soon fall out as well.

Trubisky spent last season with the Bills backing up Josh Allen after signing with Buffalo in free agency. Despite throwing only eight passes in 2021 he managed to bolster his stock enough to regain a starting job. His signing won’t be official until the new league year opens Wednesday at 1:00pm Pacific Time.
