Another Ohio State defensive back hits the transfer portal

Just when you thought the transfer portal shenanigans might be over for the Ohio State football program this offseason, we get word on one more defection out of the secondary.

Safety Marcus Hooker, the brother of former OSU All-American safety Malik Hooker, has entered his name in the transfer portal confirmed an OSU spokesman (subscription may be required) This coming season would have been his fifth in the scarlet and gray.

The younger Hooker came to OSU as a three-star prospect and had a bumpy ride. He began the 2020 season as the starting safety but struggled with injuries and showing enough for the coaching staff to have confidence in him being a consistent player on the back-end of the defense. He then ran into off-the-field issues when he pled guilty to an OVI charge in April of 2021.

Hooker figured to be in a part of the competition to nail down some of the playing time at the safety position, but it now appears as though he will try to carve out a more significant role with another program.

We wish him luck.
