Another nonconference opponent added to 2023-2024 Ohio State hoops schedule

The 2023-2024 Ohio State basketball schedule continues to round into form, especially the nonconference part of the slate. On Thursday, one more opponent was reportedly set to make a visit to the Schottenstein Center. According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, OSU will host Merrimack on November 15.

News surfaced recently that the Buckeyes will take on Alabama in the Emerald Coast Classic, and that was added to a nonconference schedule that already includes a game at home vs. Texas A&M on November 10, a matchup in Atlanta vs. Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic, and a neutral site game in Cleveland against West Virginia on December 30.

What’s missing is the annual matchup in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge after the event was allowed to expire last season as a result of new television contracts and agreements. OSU will also not take place in the Gavitt Tipoff Games because of already fulfilling its participation against Big East opponents through that event over the last few years.

Still, it’s a daunting nonconference slate. Merrimack won’t exactly raise the pedigree and perception of that schedule, but it’s another test for a team that thinks it has a lot of young pieces back to make some noise next year.
