After lying dormant for several years, the Mafia series is coming back.
In a 20th-anniversary interview shared on the official Mafia website, Hangar 13 head of production and media director Tomáš Hřebíček and general manager Roman Hladík revealed that the studio is reviving the popular crime series.
“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project,” Hladík said. “While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”
There’s no confirmation as to what this new title might be, though. While most would assume it’s Mafia 4, that last series entry was Mafia: Definitive Edition — a complete remake of the original game, which came out in September 2020. It’s always possible that Mafia 2 could receive a similar touch-up, but we’ll undoubtedly find out whenever Hangar 13 reveals the project.

For those who are unfamiliar, Mafia is an open-world affair similar to Grand Theft Auto. Only it draws far more inspiration from films like The Godfather and The Departed. The last mainline game was Mafia 3, which came out way back in 2016.
