Lam's Chinese takeaway has lodged a planning application for permission to open a new sit-in restaurant in Ballyfermot.
In recent weeks, a new business rival New Lam's opened up next to Lam's following a dispute between father and son Ken and Jonathan Lam, who are now running their own rival takeaways. Speaking to Dublin Live this week, Ken Lam - who has run the original Lam's for 32 years - said that he wishes to expand his business by developing a site at 296 Ballyfermot Road, so that their customers can sit-in for their meals.
He said: "Yes, we are expanding. I am excited for the new restaurant. We are very busy now. Business is good."

According to a planning application lodged with Dublin City Council by the original Lam's Chinese in February 2023, they are seeking permission for a new takeaway development at 296 Ballyfermot Road on the site of the old Full Stop Cafe. In the application, it states that the development will consist of "change of use of the existing ground floor café unit to a ground floor Chinese restaurant for the preparation of hot and cold foods".
It also states that the premises would be operating operating seven days a week from 12 midday through to 10pm.
The name of the business will also be changed on the facade of the building from “Full Stop Cafe” to “Lams Chinese Restaurant.” It is understood that the development will consist of no external or internal alterations, and this is all together with associated site works.
In a decision on 29 April, Dublin City Council said that it requires "additional information" concerning the application for the new dine-in restaurant. A spokesman said: "A planning application proposing a change of use of an existing café to a Chinese restaurant at 296 Ballyfermot Road was submitted under plan ref. WEB1141/23. To date, planning permission has not been granted as the applicant has been requested to submit further information relating to the take-away element of the proposal and the internal floor plans."
Lam's is currently based at 286 Ballyfermot Road, and they are open Monday-Sunday from 4pm to 12am.
