Another crash causes chaos on Llanelli’s notorious Sandy Road

Yet another crash has taken place along a notorious road in Llanelli where residents have long called for action. The collision took place between a car and a van along Sandy Road on the afternoon of Monday, February 27, in an incident which saw one person taken to hospital

A casualty inside one of the cars had to be extricated by the fire service in the incident which blocked the busy road for around an hour.

The road has become a prolific hotspot for crashes. In November last year, we reported how a silver Mazda crashed into a blue Lexus which was parked along the road. Residents living there have also spoken of multiple other incidents. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.

It's not known if speed was a factor in this latest incident or any of the others, but one resident, Aled Roberts, described the stretch as a 'race track'. “Late last year, one car came down the road too fast, hit a neighbour’s car, mounted the pavement and then hit the gate and the garden wall outside their house. A couple of days later another driver came round the corner and crashed into another car which belonged to the same people. Then, in late November, our car was written off when a car crashed into ours outside the house. It was a total write-off and it cost us £3,500. So, since about October last year, we’ve lost three cars on the same side of the street," said Mr Roberts recently.

Carmarthenshire Council has previously said it has a plan to improve traffic flows and tackle congestion in the road. You can read more about that by clicking here.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire Service said of the latest incident: "At 4.04pm on Monday, February 27, the Llanelli crew were called to an incident on Sandy Road, Llanelli. A road traffic collision involving two private motor vehicles had occurred, the crew assisted in extricating one trapped casualty, stabilised the vehicle and made the scene safe. The police were also in attendance to manage traffic control. One casualty self-presented at hospital. The crew left the scene at 4.43pm."

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police added: "We were called to a collision involving a car and a van on Sandy Road, Llanelli, at around 3.55pm on Monday, 27 February. The road was cleared at 4.45pm."
