Liverpool's beloved waterfront firework display will not be going ahead this year, it has been confirmed.
Bonfire Night firework displays are a much loved tradition, with many families casting their gazes to the sky to watch elaborate, multicoloured patterns erupt above. In Liverpool, the waterfront display as part of the River of Light event quickly established itself as a firm favourite.
Last year, the firework display was cancelled in a bid to tackle potential disruption and delays caused during the coronavirus pandemic. In the years before the pandemic hit, the River of Light fireworks display often attracted up to 50,000 people.

Though normality has resumed and restrictions are a thing of the past, a spokesperson for Liverpool City Council has confirmed there will again be no firework display as part of the River of Light celebrations this year. The popular illuminated outdoor trail will return to the city on October 21 where it will run until November 6.
Other Bonfire Night firework displays will run at a variety of locations across Merseyside. The Echo will provide updates when any events or displays are confirmed.
