Annecy attack: British girl, 3, to leave hospital in the coming days, prosecutor says

The three-year-old British girl who was stabbed in Annecy will leave hospital in the coming days, officials have said.

The girl was one of four children - aged between 22 months and three-years-old, along with two adults, who were attacked by a 31-year-old Syrian national on Thursday.

Lead prosecutor, Line Bonnet-Mathis, confirmed the victims are no longer in life-threatening condition.

Ms Bonnet-Mathis also confirmed that French judges have preliminary charged a man with attempted murder following the attack.

In a translated statement, she said: “The prosecution service of Annecy immediately opened a case and the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police have also been involved.

“The assailant at 9.47am was put into custody.

“The prosecution service of Annecy opened a judicial case for attempted murder. The prosecution service put the assailant in provisional custody.

“And this afternoon he was going to be taken to court and he will appear before the judge.”

Emmanuel Macron travelled to the region to visit the victims saying that the British girl "is awake, she’s watching television”.

A critically injured Portuguese male — who was both knifed and wounded by a shot that police fired as they detained the suspected attacker — is regaining consciousness, Mr Macron said.

The second injured adult was discharged from a hospital.

Police do not believe the incident to be terror-related.
