Anne Robinson reveals men still ask her about £9,000 facelift 20 years on

Anne Robinson has revealed that, 20 years after her £9,000 facelift, people are still asking her about the procedure.

The 79-year-old former Weakest Link host, who had the surgery in 2004, says her face remains a topic of conversation.

In an interview with The Oldie, Robinson shared that "for ages" after the facelift, people — particularly men — would approach her to find out who did the surgery.

"For ages afterwards, men would come up to me and have a serious conversation and then at the end say, 'My wife wanted to know if I could ask you where you got your facelift’," she said.

She added that even political figures were curious, recalling a conversation with "Gordon Brown’s female sidekick" at a party, who after a discussion on inheritance tax, asked her, "How much did your face cost?"

Robinson admitted that she had some regrets about debuting her new look on TV so soon after the procedure, which led to public ridicule.

Speaking on Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything, she said she wished she had waited longer before returning to the screen.

"When you have cosmetic surgery, it’s a bit like taking a leg of lamb out of the oven. You have to let it rest for a bit," she explained.

She recalled a headline that read, "This face is the Weakest Link," referring to her swollen appearance after the surgery.

Despite the backlash, Robinson remains unapologetic about being open about her facelift and regular Botox treatments.

"I think you are only as sick as your secrets.

“It is very hard to be pretending you have not had a facelift," she said.

Robinson, who hosted The Weakest Link from 2000 to 2012, took on the role of host for Countdown in 2021 but left the show in July 2022.

Reflecting on her time at Countdown, she admitted she struggled to replicate the success of The Weakest Link and her earlier career as a journalist.

"I tried to be nice on Countdown. I loved it but nothing was ever going to be as wonderful as The Weakest Link or being a newspaper journalist," she said.

She also acknowledged that her sharp-tongued style didn’t fit with Countdown: "[Countdown] is a brilliant show, but it does not really require a smart-arse presenter."

Robinson added: "If you were quite obese, I would say, 'What do you do when you’re not eating?' But you can’t do that anymore."
