Anne Heche in critical condition in a coma with lung damage and burns after horror crash

Actress Anne Heche is in critical condition in a coma, four days after she was involved in a horror car crash which saw her Mini Cooper "engulfed in flames".

The 53-year-old slipped into a coma shortly after the accident on Friday morning in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles, her representative has confirmed.

Anne is the former partner of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres – the pair began dating in 1997 before separating in 2000 – and is known for films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and the 1998 Psycho remake.

“Previous reports stating that Anne Heche was stable were inaccurate,” a spokesperson told the PA news agency.

“Shortly after the accident, Anne became unconscious, slipping into a coma and is in critical condition.

“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”

Mirror Online has contacted Anne's representative for comment.

Anne's Mini struck a two-storey home and "erupted in heavy fire ", according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

“59 firefighters took 65 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure,” an LAFD report stated.

“One female adult (was) found within the vehicle, who has been taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics in critical condition.”

The LAFD also confirmed the vehicle had driven 30ft into the residence but that the home’s occupant had escaped without injury.

The building was left "uninhabitable", the spokesman added.

An eyewitness told NBC Los Angeles news at the time: “The house was tons of smoke. I think they used the crane to move the car to extract the driver. It was crazy.”

And LAFD Capt. Erik Scott said: “We really had a multifaceted incident here.

“We had a significant traffic collision, we had entrapment of a woman inside that, we had car that erupted into fire, and then we had a home that had significant fire that is red tagged. It's at this point destroyed.”
