Oscar-winning Anne Hathaway has opened up about her “complicated” journey to become a mother.

The Princess Diaries star, 39, is already a proud mother to Jonathan, five, and Jack, two, with her actor-producer husband of nine years, Adam Shulman, 40.

Appearing on the cover of WSJ Magazine, she shared her desire to have a third child, telling the publication: “I could see us going for another one. There’s this tendency to portray getting pregnant, having kids, in one light, as if it’s all positive. But I know from my own experience, it’s so much more complicated than that.

“When you find out that your pain is shared by others, you just think, I just feel that’s helpful information to have, so I’m not isolated in my pain,” she continued. “I mean, what is there to be ashamed of? This is grief, and that’s a part of life”.

Hathaway previously alluded to fertility struggles back in 2019 when she announced her second pregnancy on Instagram.

Uploading a black and white picture showing off her bump, she captioned the snap: “It’s not for a movie...#2 All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”

Hathaway, who will next be seen starring in Apple TV+’s new eight-part series WeCrashed in which she stars as real-life disgraced WeWork chief brand/impact officer Rebekah Neumann, also spoke about how motherhood had changed her as a person, saying: “I didn’t feel fully landed and fully here until I was a mom. It’s not like I was lacking integrity, but it made me want to be completely, on every level, true to my word. And that meant stopping any nonsense that I had going on inside myself.”

Keeping coy about her upcoming milestone birthday, she also revealed plans to have a joint birthday party with her old college friends who will all be celebrating around the same time.
