Teenager Caelan Ferguson was crowned as Queen of the Border at a ceremony in front of crowds gathered on Annan’s High Street on Friday night.
The 14-year-old gymnast – who has competed at regional and national level and represented Scotland’s schools competition on five occasions – is following in the footsteps of her mum, Anne-Marie who was Queen of the Border in 1990. Caelan, who plans to study sports physiotherapy when she leaves Annan Academy, was chosen for the regal role by pupils in her year and was crowned by retiring Queen, Olivia Schiller-Hughes.
Her royal party is made up of Annan’s Champion, Corey Nicholson, ladies-in-waiting Romany Irving and Jessica Hyslop, heralds Riley Simpson and Masen Anderson, crown bearer Corri Farish, sceptre bearer Millie Thomson, gift bearer Liam Barker and train bearers William Cairns and Charlie Templeton.
Civic dignitaries joined Cornet Oran Keenan, Cornet’s Lass Katie Anderson and Standard Bearer Katy Nelson at the ceremony.
Riding of the Marches Day starts tomorrow with the riders leaving at 8am from the High Street to check the royal burgh’s boundaries.
A sensational display of massed pipe bands will take place at the closing ceremony on the High Street in the evening.
