Annan Athletic to take patched up squad to Friday night Edinburgh City clash

Manager Peter Murphy will take a patched up Annan side through to the capital tonight for their League Two tussle with Edinburgh City.

A wave of injuries struck the team last week and the Galabankies boss reckons there will be a few out for this evening’s encounter.

He said: “We had to re-shuffle for the Forfar game and bring in a couple of younger players at 19 and 20.

“Now we have more players out and the list includes Scott Hooper, Owen Moxon, Roan Steele and Matty Douglas.

“Edinburgh City need a win and that makes it a tough game for us, but from our point of view we would like to get a win and keep that momentum going into the play-offs and also to help with confidence.”

Galabankies were hammered 5-1 at Forfar last weekend and also lost the previous week 3-2 to basement boys Cowdenbeath.

Murphy said: “Since we clinched a play-off place I think the players have subconsciously let it slip mentally.

“We don’t need to win any of these games, but for the mentality of the players we have to be switched on.

“This is going to be a good, competitive game with Edinburgh City which is much better than playing a team with nothing to go for.

“We beat them 1-0 through there the last time we played them and that was on a Friday night and the advantage of a Friday game is that it gives us another day’s rest for the following game.

“After that the play-offs mean there will be games galore on Saturday and in midweek on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

“It’s unfortunate we have had so many injuries in the last few weeks, but we have players to come in.

“I just hope that the players use last weekend’s defeat as a learning curve and that we can take some positives out of it.

“We were 5-0 down at halftime, but I told the players to stop making errors and go out and win the second half and that is what they did with us getting the only goal of the second half.”
