Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively Just Had Wildly Different Takes On Working Together

The South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival just kicked off with the premiere of Another Simple Favour, the sequel to the 2018 hit A Simple Favour. And let’s just say, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively had some pretty different takes on what it’s like to work together again.

When asked about reuniting with Blake for the sequel, Anna gave a pretty cryptic response. She simply said, “Oh, you know…” before moving on to sign posters for fans.

Fans were quick to point out the “dismissive response“. One user commented on X, “Anna Kendrick mastering the art of saying a lot without saying anything at all.”

Others don’t think the comment meant anything. “IDK it looks like she’s just poking fun at her? Doesn’t seem shady to me,” said one X user.

It was a bit of a tease, but she did manage to crack a joke about being out of the loop on current events. “Why, what happened?” she quipped.

“I did ayahuasca, and the last year of my life is just gone.”

Despite the humour, she did let slip that she’s heard the movie is “amazing”.

Meanwhile, Blake Lively was beaming with excitement. When asked about being back with Anna, she said, “Oh, it’s the best. I’m so happy to be here.” It’s a pretty big contrast to Anna’s coy response and you can’t help but wonder if this has anything to do with Lively being in the headlines recently.

If you’ve somehow missed it, Lively has been in the headlines due to her ongoing legal battle with It Ends With Us director and costar Justin Baldoni.

The dispute began in December when Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment, alleging unprofessional behavior on set and a retaliatory smear campaign against her.

Baldoni has since filed a countersuit, claiming Lively falsely accused him to repair her reputation and seeking $400 million in damages.

Meanwhile, director of Another Simple Favour, Paul Feig, has been showing his support for Blake, shutting down any rumours that the controversy would affect the film’s release.

When Feig was asked why it was important for him to stand up for Blake at SXSW by Variety he said, “Because she’s amazing. This is my second movie with Blake. I love working with her, she’s the most amazing collaborator, so smart. She and Anna are two of the smartest actors I’ve ever worked with.”

He continued, “Every movie star has opinions about what they are doing. I have not worked with one that doesn’t not want to get in there and work on stuff and make it better with me and that’s our process.”

Another Simple Favor promises to bring more twists and turns as it follows Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) to Capri for Emily’s wedding, which quickly turns into a murder mystery. The film is set to hit Amazon Prime on May 1, so we won’t have to wait long to see what all the fuss is about.
