A man has been charged by police for allegedly intimidating a witness in the criminal neglect case surrounding Adelaide woman Ann Marie Smith, who died in shocking circumstances almost two years ago.
Police said a 57-year-old man from Huntfield Heights in Adelaide's south was arrested on Monday, after he allegedly threatened a woman last week.
"A man was arrested yesterday for allegedly intimidating a witness in a high-profile criminal neglect case," police said.
He has since been charged, with police alleging the incident occurred on Wednesday, December 29.
"It will be alleged he approached and threatened a woman at Noarlunga Centre," police said.
"The woman is a witness in the ongoing investigation into the death of Ann Marie Smith."
Ms Smith died from severe septic shock, organ failure, pressure sores, malnutrition and other complications from her cerebral palsy in April 2020.
She was confined to a cane chair in her home at Kensington Park in Adelaide's east for 24 hours a day, and police said the circumstances she was left in were "disgusting and degrading".
The 54-year-old lived alone and relied on a paid support worker under the National Disability Insurance Scheme for all of her needs.
Her death generated headlines as well as multiple inquiries including a criminal investigation.
Ms Smith was a client of disability care agency Integrity Care which was fined more than $12,000 by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for failing to report her death.
In July, Ms Smith's former carer Rosa Maione pleaded guilty to her manslaughter.
The man who was arrested on Monday was given police bail but is scheduled to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on February 10.
