Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J, and Shawn Mendes are set to headline the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be broadcast live on Sept. 11 from New York’s UBS Arena at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The event will be hosted by Megan Thee Stallion.
Anitta, a three-time VMA performer, will showcase a medley of “Savage Funk” and “Alegria” along with the world premiere of “Paradise,” featuring special guests Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK. She is also a three-time VMA nominee this year, having previously won the best Latin category twice.
Karol G, who made her VMA debut last year and secured her first win for best collaboration, will compete for the best Latin award alongside Anitta. LL Cool J will grace the VMA stage with a performance from his upcoming album, The Force. The iconic hip-hop artist, a previous VMA winner and Video Vanguard Award recipient, also participated in last year's hip-hop tribute.
Shawn Mendes will make his return to the MTV stage with the first televised performance from his fifth studio album, Shawn, marking his fourth VMA appearance. Taylor Swift leads the pack with 10 VMA nominations, followed by Post Malone with nine, and Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Sabrina Carpenter with six each. Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims each received five or more nominations.
Viewers can vote online in 15 gender-neutral categories until Aug. 30. In honor of the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, MTV will support the nonprofit 9/11 Day and Tuesday’s Children, organizations dedicated to serving the families affected by the tragic events.
