A 21-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in an Ealing alleyway was walking home with her friend when she was attacked, police said on Monday, as they appealed for witnesses.

Ania Jedrkowiak died in the early hours of Tuesday, May 17, after being found with stab wounds in Roberts Alley, off Church Gardens.

Scotland Yard said she had finished work at a restaurant in Ealing and was walking home with a friend when she was attacked.

Detectives on the case, Operation Wayfront, believe there may be several witnesses who have not yet come forward and they will revisit the area on Monday to speak to local residents.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, the senior investigating officer, said: "Ania’s life was taken in the most tragic of circumstances and her family are understandably completely devastated by what has happened.

"My team of detectives have already made significant progress, however I believe there may be people with information who we have not yet spoken to and I am keen to speak with them as soon as possible".

A post-mortem carried out in wake of Ms Jedrkowiak’s death has confirmed the cause as multiple stab wounds.

Dennis Akpomedaye, 29, was charged with the student’s murder last Wednesday and appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he was remanded in custody.

The University of West London was among those paying tribute to the Polish national in the wake of her tragic death.

“Ania was very dedicated to her studies and touched the hearts of many people during her time at UWL,” said the institution in a statement.
