Angus Gunn answers Scotland SOS call from Steve Clarke with Norwich City keeper 'set' for call up

Angus Gunn is reportedly set to answer Steve Clarke’s Scotland SOS call when he's included in his squad this month.

The Norwich City goalkeeper has been approached by Clarke over declaring his allegiance to Scotland - just like dad Bryan - following a horror double leg break that ruled out first choice Craig Gordon for the remainder of the season. Gordon's Hearts understudy Zander Clark has performed well and has been tipped to take over the gloves at international level after deputising for Gordon under Robbie Neilson.

But he’s now set to face competition from Gunn, who has accepted Clarke's offer to pull on the dark blue despite being capped by England at Under 21 level. Previous attempts to recruit Gunn have proved unsuccessful, but Clarke’s persistence has paid off and the Scottish Sun claims that Gunn will be included in the upcoming squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain.

David Marshall announced his retirement from international football last year and it had been suggested that Clarke could try and persuade the hero of Belgrade to return to the international fold while Gordon is sidelined. But that’s unlikely now that Gunn has agreed to switch allegiance from England, with Clark and Motherwell’s Liam Kelly set to complete the goalkeeping trio.

Further up the pitch, Clark’s Tynecastle teammate Lawrence Shankland is hoping for an international return. The striker has bagged 20 goals already for the Jambos this season - the first to do that in maroon since John Robertson 31 years ago. However, Shankland is an injury doubt for Saturday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Celtic and his inclusion may hinge on his fitness.

Hibs hitman Kevin Nisbet is available again after injury. However, Lyndon Dykes has spent time in hospital recently with an illness and needs more time to recover before he’s back in action.
