Angus Cloud responded to fans who wanted him to portray the late rapper Mac Miller in a biopic prior to his death aged 25 on Monday.
The Euphoria star had often been linked to The Spins hitmaker, who died in 2018 aged 26 from an accidental drug overdose, due to their physical likeness. Cloud’s cause of death is not yet known.
In an interview with Etalk last January, Cloud said: “I don’t think I would be prepared to take on someone’s life and legacy and try to replay that, you know?
“That man [Miller] is a legend and he’s going to remain one. May he rest in peace, you feel me?”
Adding: “Taking on someone’s whole life and becoming that person, like, how much respect you have to give them to actually try to portray them, you know?
“Like, you have to learn, you know what I’m saying?”
Following Cloud’s passing, fans took to social media to compare his untimely death to that of Miller’s.
One fan penned on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Why does this feel like Mac Miller part 2??? I AM NOT OKAY. RIP Angus Cloud”.
“Me realizing that Angus Cloud will never play Mac Miller in a biopic,” another wrote.
While a third reminded others that Cloud “was his own person”, writing: “I hate to be THAT person, but let’s remember that Angus Cloud was his own person.
“I understand he looked like Mac Miller and reminded some of us of Mac. But, he was Angus Cloud. Stop saying its like losing Mac all over again bc Angus was somebody on his own.”
Cloud died on Monday, a week after he buried his father, having “intensely struggled” with the grief, a statement from Cloud’s family said.
“The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend,” the statement said.
“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.
“We hope the world remembers him for his humour, laughter and love for everyone.”
A fortnight before his death, Cloud posted a picture of his father wearing a red tracksuit, captioning it: “Miss u breh”
The actor was one of the breakout stars of popular TV series Euphoria, appearing in both series of the Sam Levinson-directed drama alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.
He was recently cast to co-star in Scream 6.
