Angry Virgin Media users rage as many still blocked from accessing important emails

Many Virgin users are still being affected by a major email outage that happened two weeks ago. The firm's messaging servers hit problems late last month with customers blocked from their accounts for more than 24 hours.

"Unfortunately a part of the hardware that manages our mailbox platform experienced a failure, which overloaded the servers and caused service disruption for some email users," explained Axel Wehrle, director of customer service for Virgin Media.

Despite things coming back online, many are now complaining that they are still missing old emails stored in their accounts and some are also facing fresh problems logging in.

The gremlins are causing a massive headache for those who can't find important messages they had stored on Virgin's servers.

One Virgin user called Steve tweeted: "I assume all Virgin media email customers are going to be compensated due to continuous loss of emails, I have lost really important emails this week that have affected ability to work as I was awaiting certificates via email. I’m sure I’m not alone "

Whilst another called Andy added: "Like many, I've lost all my personal folders & historic Blueyonder emails. I'm also doubting whether we'll ever get them back.

And Virgin user Edmond said: "Virgin media is hopeless. I have had no email for days, they have lost all my wife’s emails and now they are not able to receive phone calls. What am I supposed to do?"

Speaking to the BBC, Virgin Media said: "Following a recent issue with our email service, all Virgin Media email users are able to send and receive emails as normal. Unfortunately a small proportion of impacted users are currently unable to view historic emails in their inboxes.

"We know that this will be frustrating for those who have important emails and documents saved in their inboxes, and we apologise unreservedly for the inconvenience this is causing.

"Fixing this issue is taking longer than we anticipated but our teams are working flat out to fully restore all historic emails as soon as possible."

Along with that loss of messages, it seems some users are even struggling to log back into their accounts due to more issues today.

Replying to one user, Virgin said, "Hi Julie, we are aware that some customers are experiencing issues with their email service and are very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing. Our teams are working flat out to fully restore all emails as soon as possible."

It's unclear if today's problems are related to the issues in June but it won't please those affected by yet another outage.
