Angry mob shouting 'beast out' gather in Scots street as missiles thrown at riot police

This is the moment an angry mob gathered in a Scots street in a heated stand off with riot police. The crowd could be heard shouting "beast out" as they stood in numbers outside a property on Ballindean Road in Dundee at around 5.30pm on Friday, September 2.

Cops arrived at the street as the group began to gather to protest, understood to be about an alleged paedophile living in a property in the area. The person was eventually removed by cops as the atmosphere turned toxic with missiles being thrown at officers.

In dramatic footage the mob can be heard shouting "peadophile" and "beast out" as officers holding riot shields form a line outside the property. As things get heated cops can heard shouting "get back" as the group try to push their way past the officers.

A glass is then smashed as the group continue to jeer, as one shouts "this is called a rebellion". Eventually, as the van begins to move, the group begin to attack the vehicle as a road sign can be seen being thrown in the direction of the officers.

As it drives down the road the group chase and punch the vehicle while shouting "stop them", as more glass can be heard being smashed in the background. A loud bang can then be heard, as someone shouts "they just f***ing crashed the car", before the police vehicle eventually drives away down the street.

Following the incident, police have slammed those who became hostile in the group and said they will be working to identify those responsible before taking action. In a second incident in Dundee on Friday night, another crowd gathered outside a property on Craigmore Street at around 8.30pm.

Officers attended and the group were dispersed, but a car was damaged and a window was smashed and cops are working to identify those responsible. Police say there will be increased patrols in the area following the pair of incidents.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Ross Fitzgerald said: “Around 5.30pm on Friday, September 2, officers were called to reports of a large crowd gathering outside an address in Ballindean Road, Dundee. Unfortunately during the incident some of those gathered became extremely hostile towards police and objects were thrown at officers and vehicles. Public order trained officers were called to assist.

“Police Officers have a duty to ensure the safety of everyone involved and whilst no officers were injured, this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable. Although the crowd later dispersed we are currently carrying out enquiries to establish more details on the offences committed and identify those responsible and take the appropriate action. This will include reviewing any available video footage.”

Chief Inspector Fitzgerald continued: “We are also continuing enquiries into a similar incident where a crowd had gathered on Craigmore Street in Dundee on Friday evening which officers were called to around 8.30pm.

“Officers attended to assist and engaged with the group, who later dispersed. A car was damaged and a window was smashed during the incident and we are working to identify those responsible.

“We would like to reassure the local community in these areas that increased patrols are being carried out to provide public reassurance following these incidents of disorder and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to local officers.”
