Angry Lanarkshire residents hit out at housebuilder with scores of complaints over work

Angry Lanarkshire residents who were supposed to be moving into their ‘forever home’ are taking action against a housebuilder after dozens of complaints over the work being carried out.

Dozens of homeowners who spent hundreds of thousands of pounds to move into the Persimmon Homes’ Avon Water Walk site in Stonehouse have been left frustrated by snagging issues which have still to be sorted months after they had moved in.

Iain Thomson is one of those individuals and has had enough of waiting for Persimmon to carry out the repairs.

He said: “I moved into my new home in September as I liked the village and it would be a good place for my kids to grow up but it went downhill quickly because of all the issues we have had with Persimmon.

“It’s been more than six months and they still haven’t finished my 30 day snagging list. I put my concerns up on the local residents' Facebook page and was amazed at some of the responses.

“There are people who have lived here for 18 months and still have numerous problems.

“Persimmon are dragging their heels on this and people just aren’t taking it anymore.

“People have spent a lot of money on these houses; for many it was supposed to be their ‘forever home’ but they feel badly let down.”

A meeting of residents, held at the village’s St Ninian's Church Hall, saw snagging issues put together with the relevant information set to be taken to the building company’s head office.

Iain added: “The meeting was very animated and I think a lot of people were able to get things off their chest.

“I will be taking everyone’s snagging list straight to the Persimmon office in Glasgow. They don’t return our calls or emails so we are hoping this will speed the process along.”

Another woman, who asked not to be named, spoke of her anger at the number of issues she has had to face since moving into her ‘dream home’ in November last year.

“I wish we had never moved,” said the mum-of-two.

“I feel like we have been mis-sold the house because of the problems we have had.

“Part of our garden has been fenced off because of ongoing problems and that was one of big reasons for moving as we have two kids under the age of two.

“At the moment we have 74 outstanding matters on our snagging list. The stress and anxiety this has caused has been unbelievable.”

A spokesman for Persimmon told Lanarkshire Live: “We are aware that snagging works are outstanding at some homes within our Avon Water Walk development and wish to assure all residents that we will continue to work with them to resolve any issues on a one-to-one basis as quickly as possible.

“Action is already being taken, with dates confirmed for work to be carried out at a number of the relevant properties and we’re adding extra resource to the development to process the remaining issues as quickly as we can.

“I want to thank residents for their patience and encourage anyone with a concern to contact their customer care co-ordinator directly.”
