A dad has been left frustrated and angry after travelling with American Airlines from Las Vegas to Austin in the US with his wife and their four-month-old baby.
During the nearly three hour long flight, he claims the mum had needed to pump breastmilk, and because there was a vacant seat next to them she placed their child there.
However, according to the husband, the flight attendants proceeded to "demand" she take him off the seat and hold him instead, because she hadn't "paid for the empty seat".
The husband asked on Twitter : "Did [the] flight attendants get bad news today? Did they have to be blunt and rude to my wife?"
The man, whose name is Matt, slammed: "Flight was in the air, seatbelt sign was off and the seat next to her was empty.
"Flight attendant came through and told her off for placing him on the seat while she pumped. She had to hold him."
American Airlines responded to Matt's tweet, saying: "Rudeness has no place in one's travels, and we're sorry if a different impression has been made."
According to the airlines' regulations, infants under two years of age can travel for free in the lap of their parent, or an accompanying adult who is 16 years or older.
However, it also says on American Airlines' website: "If your infant will travel in their own seat, you must buy a ticket.
"The infant must either travel in a safety seat approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or be able to sit upright in their seat without assistance and have their seatbelt securely fastened during taxi, takeoff, landing and whenever the 'fasten seatbelt' sign is on."
The Mirror has contacted American Airlines for comment.
Elsewhere, a plane passenger was furious after being woken from a nap to find someone's child 'climbing over them' because they refused to swap seats.
The woman claimed that after she had refused to swap seats, the mum "refused to deal with her child" out of "spite".
Another passenger also refused to give up his front-row seat for a mum and her baby, because he'd paid for extra leg room.
The mum had asked him to swap seats with her husband so he could help with the baby, but he said no. After flight attendants helped the couple move somewhere else in the plane, he could hear them making remarks.
