Angling: Inspirational Heather’s journey

Heather Lindfield is one of the remarkable shore anglers of recent years, as her amazing record shows.

After already fulfilling her dream to represent England back in 2001, last week she not only once again took the centre stage by representing her country, she proudly lifted the gold cup on behalf of the country as their team captain.

It has, in her own words been a staggering journey, one that has emerged within her association of fishing alongside some of the world’s greatest sea anglers. Including her amazing best friend and husband Bill.

Where many readers may envisage an angler upon this level having an easy ride, I for one find it difficult to comprehend the dedication required to discipline ones work, family life with such a busy pastime at times, especially at this under so much pressure.

After speaking to Heather a few years ago, I can honestly say that I could only stand in awe then, of how she described her own life experience, one that at that particular time had seen her rise to a world ranking 7th best shore angler.

Putting aside the emotional experience of a massive stroke 20 odd years ago, as a survivor, this amazing lady from the Wirral is certainly an inspiration to everyone.

Never looking back, Heather is one that her fellow teammates will have undoubtedly been inspired by from her leadership last week.

A lovely character on top of her wide range of experience and an ever enduring enthusiasm for match fishing, Heather’s captaincy within last week’s Home Nations Weymouth 2022 saw the England Ladies team take gold amongst a superb line up of fellow internationals.

Not forgetting her husband Bill, again a fantastic ambassador within angling, Bill was amongst the men who took silver.

As another, who strives to get the best out of the sport he loves, very much like his good lady Heather, Bill's skills, will I’m sure have also assisted the representatives within the England Juniors who wonderfully took gold.

On the bank inland, visiting the Alliance & Leicester AC a cracking 117.9.0 saw Anfield’s Ian Pritchard take the clubs day by storm. That weight far outshone the back up’s on what was a difficult warm very sunny day on Sunday.

Andy Bolton 689.0 took second and Dave Langton 65.5.0 took third.

On a tough canal that again saw many bankside visitors enjoying the superb weather last weekend, Colin Cliffe got back into winning ways with a superb 11.9.0 of prime roach on the drums at Lydiate.

Skimmers are common on this length going out from the Running Horses and one man who knows that is local legend John Easton. Backed up with roach Easton took second place with a catch of 8.11.0. LAS Team mate Jeff Stirrat also took an all roach catch for 8.4.0 for third and Paul Kennils, fourth took 6.4.0.

Paul Banks took a cracking catch of skimmers and bream for 31lb on Marin on Sunday on this, another superb water.

Adding a net of carp for 27lb to his weight, his accumulative 59.2.0 was enough to win this popular open at Mescar Fisheries.
