Angers financial worry Leeds United can exploit to sign Morocco star who impressed Andrea Radrizzani

Leeds United could exploit Angers' financial difficulties if they choose to pursue Morocco's World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi. The midfielder impressed in Qatar - starting all six of Morocco's games as they became the first ever African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

Victor Orta has revealed that he has received messages from Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani about Ounahi, who was only playing in the third-tier of French football just 18 months ago.

He joined Angers in the summer of 2021 and was linked with a move to Sevilla for a fee in the region of €12 million in the summer, according to French journalist Gildas Crozon. Ounahi subsequently penned a new four-year deal with Angers but his World Cup exploits will undoubtedly have turned heads across Europe, most notably Barcelona.

Angers president Said Chabane was reportedly on the verge of selling the club to an American investment fund in the summer, but the sale failed to materialise.

Chabane's buy-low-sell-high methods have earned the club major profits on the likes of Karl Toko-Ekambi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide in recent years. However, the club have been suffering financially of late, so much so that DNCG, French football's financial watchdog, have been keeping a close eye.

"He could have gone last summer, so it's not really new for Angers to think about Azzedine as a potential sale," French journalist Gildas Crozon told Sky Sports.

"The financial situation is not good at the moment. I'm not sure it's so bad they have to sell in January, but maybe next summer."
