Anger has been voiced over the condition of Bulwell Cemetery after photos emerged showing overgrown grass, almost covering a number of tombstones. A visitor to Northern Cemetery in Hempshill Lane, took to social media to raise concerns about the state of the cemetery, stating she was "disgusted" by the overgrowth and rubbish.
In a post in Bulwell Community group on Facebook, Tanya Simpson said: "Absolutely disgusted with the state of the Bulwell cemetery. Overgrown grass, rubbish everywhere... makes me sick to my stomach."
The images show large amounts of grass, which in some instances has reached the tops of gravestones. Others noted having a similar experience at the cemetery. One visitor added: "I went up on Saturday and it was an absolute disgrace after wading my way through long thick grass to put flowers on three graves."

Another added: "We went up this morning, it really did upset me, it’s an absolute mess. The worst I've ever seen it." Another wrote: "You know its bad when the grass is taller than the headstones.
"It's actually appalling when people have paid so much money to have their loved ones buried there." According to Nottingham City Council's website, it costs £2,163 for a city resident to have a traditional grave for 99 years at the cemetery.
A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of concerns raised in the community and from visitors to Bulwell Cemetery. During May we had a lot of warm, and welcome, sunshine which followed wetter weather in the spring, and this always leads to rapid growth of the grass.
"Grounds staff have been working hard to keep on top of this, as well as general tidying of the site. We have some areas at Bulwell where we try to allow the grass to grow a little more to encourage wildlife, plus mowing can sometimes be more challenging where families have left items around gravestones.
"We’ll continue to monitor and manage the site over the coming weeks.” Northern Cemetery is open 24 hours, seven days a week, all year round.
