LOCALS have reacted with anger and confusion after a holiday park firm advertised a new “Spey View” development – which overlooks another river altogether.
The Lossiemouth development offers views over the River Lossie, but has been named after the more famous waterway 10 miles away instead.
The Press and Journal reported that SNP councillor Neil Cameron has written to the firm behind the bizarre naming decision – Park Holidays UK – asking them to reconsider.
Cameron had written in a Facebook post: “Have Park Holidays lost their Lossie View caravan park sign? Or is there a park on the Spey which has Lossie's sign?”
He shared an image of the Spey View sign, which advertises an “exclusive development of premium holiday homes and luxury lodges”.
“I think it's maybe called ‘creative marketing’?” one user commented underneath the post, while another added: “I wondered if they thought that it might attract the more desirable visitor if they threw in the Spey word! Think whisky, shooting and fishing…”
A third user wrote: “I don’t stay in Lossie but I’m flipping raging at this. No laughing matter. What next? Burghead will be Findhorn Bay? How to mislead buyers and visitors.
“This company should be taken to task for false advertising. Swear words deleted!”
Cameron said in reply that the “task [is] being duly worked on”.
Elsewhere, the councillor told The Press and Journal: “One of my friends described it as an insult to the community.”
He went on: “I saw it with my partner when we were walking the dog along there and she was furious. She couldn’t believe it, she was saying: ‘This isn’t the Spey, it’s the Lossie.’
“It’s laughable but she was really quite irate. It’s completely tone deaf.”
The Park Holidays UK website advertises the “Spey View” development in Moray as being “set on the banks of the stunning River Lossie”.
It further says the “new developments at Lossiemouth includes [sic] six lodge and nine villa caravan holiday home pitches”.
Park Holidays UK have been asked for comment.
