Moffat’s flagship Station Park was again targeted by vandals at the weekend who are being sought by police.
This latest incident saw park benches piled up and set alight.
Police sergeant, Scott McDowall, said: “It would appear that the benches have been moved from their original positions to a remote area where they were set alight in the form of a bonfire of sorts.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
The park has endured a number of vandalism incidents in recent years despite ongoing work by the Friends of Station Park to keep it looking in top form, along with Moffat Community Council.
They recently held two “spruce-up sessions” with volunteers to compliment maintenance works by Dumfries and Galloway Council staff and commented on their Facebook page: “A big thanks to everyone who showed up and got stuck in. The park is looking a wee bit more loved, and ready for Easter.”
He said: “I don’t understand why anyone enjoys destroying things especially in an attractive pubic place like Station Park right at the beginning of the season which is vital for our visitors, residents and businesses.”
