Anger after letter from Euromillions 'winner' to Bargain Booze staff

A number of messages have been sent to the supposed winner of the record-breaking Euromillions winner from last month.

Yesterday the ECHO reported on a letter sent to a shop owner in Formby after one employee was certain she sold the winning ticket to the £195m Euromillions jackpot last month. The rumour that the winning ticket was sold in the town has captured the imagination of the town, with one employee at Bargain Booze telling the ECHO they honestly believe they sold the ticket.

The shopworker at Bargain Booze told the ECHO: "I'm sure I sold [the winning ticket]. I remember serving one lad, I looked at the ticket and the numbers just looked right.

"Our boss is on holiday and we haven't heard anything from Camelot about whether we were the ones to sell it."

The letter sent to the owner of the shop from the person claiming to have pocketed the jackpot said: "Dear Bargain Booze,

"I don't know where you got the idea that the Euromillions ticket was bought in your shop. I am that winner and bought the ticket in Paisley.

"Just for the record! Mr J.U."

Now people have had their say on the anonymous letter that claims the jackpot was won in Scotland. One reader commented: "195 million and you’re writing letters to bargain booze…the wrong fella won."

Lisa Spencer said: "Like this person as millions now, and they have nothing better to do other than write to bargain booze."

Di Ane wrote: "Good luck to the winner. Do good with your money and well done!"

One reader had the bright idea of trying to organise an identity parade in hope of finding the person who won it. Pauline Buxton said: "Wonder if the shop assistant wants an identity parade."

Another reader said that shops that sell a winning ticket worth more than £1m get a gold National Lotter sign. Jamie Lancaster said: "A bloke at our local shop said that if a shop has a blue lottery stand & sign and then it’s swapped for gold, then they’ve sold a winning ticket in excess of £1 million."
