After breaking his wrist fouling off a pitch during the Angels' 10–3 loss to the Padres on Monday, center fielder Mike Trout has undergone surgery.
The future Hall of Famer underwent the procedure on Wednesday, according to manager Phil Nevin. Nevin addressed the injury before Los Angeles’s series finale against San Diego Wednesday evening.
"I just talked to Mike; he just got out of surgery. He feels great," Nevin said. “The surgery went well. We spoke to the doctor a minute ago, but it sounds like everything went great.”
Trout is slashing .263/.369/.493 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs in 81 games this season. The Angels are 45–43 this season, seven games behind the first-place Rangers in the AL West.
There is currently no timetable for Trout’s return, a significant blow to a Los Angeles team recently hit by a rash of injuries. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani exited Tuesday’s game with a blister on his pitching hand, and infielder Anthony Rendon bruised his shin and left Tuesday’s game as well.
