Angelina Jolie visits the White House with son Maddox as he returns to US after studying in South Korea

Angelina Jolie was joined by her eldest son Maddox, 21, as they attended the White House state dinner on Wednesday.

In photos from the event, the mother and son appeared in jovial spirits as they were pictured walking into the Oval Office arm-in-arm.

Jolie, 47, showcased her flair for glamour in an off-white vintage Chanel blazer which she layered over a full-length white gown.

Following his mother’s stylish lead, Maddox looked dapper for his evening at the White House in a tailored black peacoat, white button-down shirt, black tie and slim-fit trousers.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the US-ROK alliance, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee.

Jolie’s eldest son, who she adopted from Cambodia in 2002, is well acquainted with South Korea having studied biochemistry at Seoul’s Yonsei University.

Maddox first visited the school alongside his actress mother, as well as other college campuses in South Korea, in late 2018.

In August 2019, the film star flew to Seoul to help her son settle in. It was reported by PEOPLE at the time that Maddox was “studying Korean language” along with biochemistry.

In the months following their trip, Maddox’s studying at Yonsei was disrupted due to the pandemic.

As a result, he returned to his family home in Los Angeles in March 2020. Jolie discussed her son’s education in an interview with Extra that same year, revealing how he traded in-person tuition for online classes.

However, as his classes were timetabled on Korean time, he was forced to become a night owl with his daily classes starting at 6pm in Los Angeles.

She told the outlet: “He had to stay back from Korea. He’s going online, and so I think he starts at 6pm at night.”

After a year of remote learning, he returned to South Korea in March 2021. It’s unclear whether or not Maddox has officially completed his degree at Yonsei.
