Angelina Jolie has accused Brad Pitt of attempting to silence her by pushing for a non-disclosure agreement in court documents filed on July 25. The legal battle between the former couple, who were married from 2014 to 2019 and share six children, has escalated over various issues, including their French winery, Château Miraval.
Jolie's legal team claims that Pitt is trying to have her sign an NDA that would cover allegations of abuse by Pitt. They argue that Pitt refused to buy Jolie's stake in the winery unless she agreed to the NDA, which they say is designed to force her silence about his alleged abuse and cover-up.
The couple's split in September 2016 was reportedly triggered by a violent incident during a family plane trip from France to Los Angeles, where Pitt was accused of being physically abusive towards Jolie and some of their children. Jolie alleges that the abuse had started before the plane trip and was directed solely at her until that point.
In response to Jolie's claims, Pitt's lawyers have pushed back, arguing that the requested communications are about sensitive issues such as therapy Pitt voluntarily underwent following the 2016 incident. They accuse Jolie of trying to turn a business dispute over the winery into a re-litigation of their divorce.
The couple is also embroiled in a custody battle over their children, with half of them now reaching legal age. Last month, their daughter Shiloh took legal action to drop Pitt from her last name, citing 'painful events' in her life as the reason for the name change.
