Ange's Spurs survive FA Cup shock, pushed to extra-time by non-league team

Tottenham Hotspur survived what would've been one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history after being taken to extra-time by non-league Tamworth.

Ange Postecoglou stood uncomfortably throughout the third round tie at The Lamb Ground as his star-studded side struggled to make their quality count.

Tamworth, who are currently 16th in the Vanarama National League and went into the huge cup clash on a three game winless run, displayed incredible courage against the English Premier League giants.

And the majority of the 4,000 fans inside the stadium will have been dreaming of their team pulling off the unthinkable until Spurs striker Dominic Solanke's effort ricocheted into the net with 101 minutes on the clock.

Spurs doubled their lead through Dejan Kulusevski quickly after the restart for the second half of extra-time, which ensured the former Celtic manager wouldn't have more egg on his face having already experienced backlash from supporters in recent weeks for his team's precarious league position.

Brennan Johnson rounded off the scoring by making it 3-0 with two minutes remaining as Spurs successfully navigated their way into the next round of the competition.

Speaking to ITV Sport after the full-time whistle, Postecoglou said: "It was a challenging game as we expected it to be.

"They made it hard for us, with the surface it was about us staying calm and being persistent in our football. In the end, we got the job done."

On his message to the Spurs squad going into extra-time still level, he added: "Stay calm and persistent. We knew we would finish strong and you could see they were tiring a bit.

"It's a game of football you go into it with trepidation and knowing you can slip up with the challenges.

"Most parts the boys kept their heads. I thought they stayed clam and persisted and got through.

"We are through to the next round and that was the objective for today.

"Tamworth did really well and should be proud of their efforts. For us, we move on."
