Ange Postecoglou warns Celtic won't be bowed despite decisions but swerves VAR chat that does them 'no favours'

Ange Postecoglou has warned Celtic ’s rivals they won’t be “bowed” when things go against them and that the opposition know it.

Ross County ’s penalty award at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon was controversial - the second in as many weeks after the one Dundee United were given a week ago. The champions responded with two goals to take all three points and move nine clear of Rangers at the top after they were held by St Mirren.

Postecoglou seems sick to the back teeth of VAR and is fed up talking about it. The two calls that have gone against his team haven’t affected the result with the Hoops winning both matches. That might not always be the case going forward, but regardless, the Aussie insists his players will let nothing throw them off their stride as they strive to just keep winning. And there’s not much other teams can do about it as far as he can see.

“I can’t speak highly enough of this group of players,” he said. “13 games in 42 days and every challenge thrown at them in the league, they've overcome. They were really disciplined, focused and strong today. It was great to get the three points but importantly it was a really strong performance.

“Everyone knows it now. The crowd sense it and I think the opposition sense it. If something goes against us, we’re not going to be bowed. If anything, the boys just put the bit between their teeth and go. It’s such a great trait to have because you know at different times during the year you;re going to get challenged.

“Some games things go a bit smoother. But whatever challenge has been thrown at us so far, we’ve been outstanding.

“You don’t sense panic at any stage with us. We’ve got some real quality footballers within the group. I’m very fortunate as a manager to have top quality players, but also really strong characters. Top people who want to be the best and take every challenge as it comes.

When asked about David Munro’s decision, Postecoglou preferred to focus on his men. He told BBC Scotland: “We don’t have to talk about it. Me talking about it in the last two weeks has done my football club no favours.

“From my perspective, they were only ever going to score today by a penalty. That’s what they got.

“I’ll leave it to the powers that be. I;ve said my piece on it. I’m just focusing on a group of players who are doing this club proud.

“We’ve just got to keep winning. Score a couple of goals more than the opposition and not let anything else get in the way.”

As for the nine point gap to their city rivals, Postecoglou isn’t paying no heed to how far ahead Celtic are. He added: The gap is irrelevant. What’s important is our outstanding form and results in the league. That’s one loss all year, none in this stretch of games and strong performances all year.”
