Ange Postecoglou told Celtic journey isn't over as pundit claims unfinished business could torpedo Brighton switch

Ange Postecoglou is 'strong contender' to fill the vacancy at Brighton, but the boss is being advised to concentrate of Celtic 's Champions League campaign instead.

The Celtic boss is on Brighton's radar despite the club holding talks with Roberto De Zerbi. It is reported that he remains under "serious consideration" as a replacement for Graham Potter who made the move to Chelsea to replace Thomas Tuchel earlier this week. But Adam Virgo - who played for both the Hoops and the Seagulls during his career - reckons the Aussie boss has plenty of business left to do in Glasgow before thinking about a move south of the border.

The former centre-half expects Postecoglou to stick around in Glasgow's east end for some time yet, after just a year in charge at Parkhead so far. The professional turned pundit reckons the manager can continue to lift his reputation by improving his Celtic side and making a mark with the current Scottish champs in European football. Celtic have a full schedule of Champions League group stage football in the coming weeks, with a domestic treble also certainly on the agenda of the man in charge at Parkhead despite the Brighton links.

Speaking to the Herald, the Englishman said: "Do well at Celtic and you'll be recognised as a target for other clubs, like Brendan Rodgers was. If you win the league and are managing at Champions League level, you're always going to be linked.

"You saw with Neil Lennon and my Celtic manager Gordon Strachan that others feel they've taken the club as far as they can. Neil, if I remember rightly, felt there were issues off the field in terms of transfer policies.

Virgo was overjoyed when he signed for Celtic (SNS Group/Aubrey Washington)

"It felt like he'd come to the end of his spell first time round. Gordon was the same, probably thinking he'd taken Celtic as far as possible having won titles and been in the Champions League knockouts.

"There came a stepping stone for Brendan to move after winning those trebles. But for the manager now, Ange isn't an unknown any more because people know who he is. He's doing a really good job.

"But I think he'd still feel a move would come too early for him. He can still learn as a manager taking Celtic through the Champions League.

"It's a tough one to leave if he was offered the job. He's still got a couple more seasons left in him to build a side, build a reputation as a manager and get the timing right of when he moves on. It would be a surprise if he ended up at Brighton."
