Ange Postecoglou 'tells' Celtic he wants Tottenham job as he 'eyes' No2 John Kennedy for Spurs role

Ange Postecoglou wants to take John Kennedy to Tottenham from Celtic, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim the Treble winning boss told Parkhead major shareholder Dermot Desmond in the aftermath of that Hampden triumph over Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final to secure a domestic clean sweep that he wanted to take the opportunity to land a dream chance of managing in the English Premier League.

Daniel Levy is now expected to press on and announce the 57-year-old as Antonio Conte's successor in North London with a lucrative contract and major bonus incentive on offer claims the same publication.

Kennedy has been a mainstay at Celtic over the years in a variety of different roles including a player, first team coach, assistant manager and even caretaker boss at one point. He has admirers in the shape of Hearts as they consider their next permanent boss - but Postecoglou wants to take his trusted No2 south of the border to the riches of the EPL.

Gavin Strachan and one of the video analysts at the club are also expected to follow with Celtic forced to begin planning for life after Ange following two hugely successful seasons.

He has been a hit in the transfer market as well as established himself as a fans' favourite in Glasgow's east end. In his time in charge he has won five out of the six trophies on offer domestically and tested himself at Champions League level.

Speaking about Kennedy just last week, Postecoglou said: “John plays a vital role. I give him a lot of responsibility. He’s got a lot of experience at this football club, part of a lot of success.

“That isn’t by accident. It’s not surprising people are looking at him.

“And when the time is right he will make an outstanding manager.”

It would prove to be a double hammer blow should both men move south in the coming period ahead.
