Ange Postecoglou sparks Celtic 'media frenzy' Down Under as Scott McDonald hails instant impact

Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald has hailed the "wonderful" impact of Ange Postecoglou and revealed his exploits have created a media storm back in Australia.

The Parkhead club roared to the top of the Premiership on Wednesday night as they took Rangers apart in a derby thrashing.

The Greek-Australian boss was largely unknown in Scotland when he was appointed in the summer, following the failed pursuit of Eddie Howe.

Postecoglou has well and truly won the hearts of the Celtic support though, and his side are now in the driving seat for the title.

McDonald said on Sky Sports News: "The transformation since Ange Postecoglou came into the football club, what he's had to do in such a short space of time - nine of those 11 players last night were new signings.

"So the transformation that he's been able to install at that football club and the style of play has been wonderful.

"Reo Hatate, one of signings in January, is already a superstar. They're already saying Shunsuke Nakamura, a huge legend of Celtic and Japanese football in the past who I was lucky enough to play with, they're already saying he's as good as him.

"If he lives up to that - wow."

Though he made his name in Scotland, McDonald is a proud Australian and he was asked what impact Postecoglou's success is having Down Under.

The former striker replied: "It's been an absolute media frenzy over here, social media has just been set alight by the performance last night.

"There have been a lot of Ange Postecoglou faithful over here going, 'see, I told you so' to all those Celtic fans back home in Scotland wondering who Ange was when he took over.

"Now he's here to stay, he's won the hearts of the Celtic faithful and everyone here is just so proud.

"It's been huge news, obviously there are a lot of football codes over here we have to challenge with but certainly it's been the biggest news to come out of Australian sport today.

"It's fantastic for Scottish football to get the attention that it is out here in Australia. It's been a big part of my life and it's huge now, everyone wants to watch it and everyone is just wanting Ange to succeed and create the pathway for the next generation of Australian coaches like myself and others to go and ply their trade over in Europe at some stage."
